Location Priority
The system can be configured to use one or more of these methods. If a position cannot be determined using the first method in the list, the system automatically tries the next one until a position is successfully defined or estimated.
Positioning methods
A device's position can be determined using various methods, depending on the information transmitted to the system. These methods include:
- GPS
- LBS
- Wi-Fi
- Indoor
The device sends its geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude). No additional processing is required, and the device's position is set according to the received coordinates.
After scanning LTE antenna signals, the device reports the identifiers (Cell IDs) and signal strengths of the detected antennas. This data can be compared with defined Points of Interest or building beacons to estimate indoor or outdoor positions.
Similar to LBS, the device scans nearby Wi-Fi networks and reports the BSSID and signal strength of each detected access point. This data is primarily used to determine the device's indoor position.
This method utilizes both LBS and Wi-Fi data to estimate the device's position within a building, prioritizing the strongest signal regardless of its source (LBS or Wi-Fi).
You can customize this ordered list based on your needs. For example, you can remove methods if you want to "force" the use of indoor positioning or ensure that only GPS is used.
Default Location Priority
A company can also configure its own default location priority, applied to all registered devices. See more at: Default Location Priority.
Device-Specific Location Priority
The location priority on devices is applied in their registration through profiles. You can use either existing profiles or custom mode for a specific configuration. See more at: Devices.
Difference Between LBS, Wi-Fi, and Indoor
It is important to understand the biological difference between LBS, Wi-Fi, and Indoor methods: the Indoor method uses both LBS and Wi-Fi information, selecting the strongest signal to associate the device with a beacon. If you prefer LBS beacons over Wi-Fi (or vice versa), the order of methods in your configuration list will resolve this preference.
